Why do I need insurance?

Litigation is on the increase in the UK and there is no law to protect you for being a “Good Samaritan”.

The Courts might not find a first aider guilty but there have been reports of out of court settlements and the legal costs incurred in defending yourself could be substantial.

Our First Aider Insurance policy gives you this cover and peace of mind in knowing you have someone on your side when you need them.

If you receive payment for your first aid services, the risk of litigation increases and the need for insurance protection is much greater.

Does my company’s insurance cover me as a first aider?

Your company’s Liability Insurance may provide cover to your employer for injury/illness experienced by an employee due to the negligence of the employer. The company insurance policy might cover you for first aid being administered to employees and visitors. We would advise you to get verification from your employer that their policy covers you for your services as a first aider. Your employers policy will not cover you if you give first aid out of work.

Even if your company’s insurance policy does cover you, you may still be found liable for your own negligence. Your company may even require you to pay compensation for any damages paid to a claimant.

Having your own first aid insurance policy ensures that you are covered for your professional services and eliminates any doubt. Importantly, it also ensures that you have insurance if you give first aid out of work.
